Improve your credit score

To improve you credit score you'll need to take a few simple steps first to understand you current credit score. THe first thing to do is to obtain a copy of your credit report. By doing this you'll understand exactl what your score is. Once you have obtained a copy be sure to make sure all of the information on it is correct. Under federal law you can obtain a free copy of your credit report from each of the three national credit companies.

The other important thing you can do to prevent your credit score from getting worse is to pay your bills on time. The best way to do this is to set up automatic payments from your bank account each month. That way you'll never forget to make a payment again.

Try to understand exactly what determines your credit score. Every time you apply for a loan, credit card or mortgage your credit score will be affected. Having none of the above products may actually harm your credit score, as will having too many outstanding debts.

Being close to your credit limits will also have a negative affect on your credit score. Add up the total credit limits of all of you loans and cards and then work out how much of you potential debt you have actually taken out. Taking out another credit card and not using it can sometimes be an effective way of improving your credit score.

If you are struggling to meet the repayments of your various debts you should consider consolodating your debts into one large loan. Doing so may allow you to get a lower interest rate on your debts, making the overall cost of your debts cheaper. Also consolodating debts may allow you to increase the term of your debts which may mean you can reduce your monthly repayments, causing you to improve your credit score by not missing your monthly repayments.
